Confessions of a “Perfect” Blogger Wannabe

I have a confession to make; I am not that “perfect” blogger that you see here, the one who has the amazing blog desk, the house designed and organized to the 9′s, or the mom who is constantly doing all these amazing activities with her daughter, or cooking amazing, tasty meals each night of the week.

If you were to see my life as a wife, mom and blogger, it would probably be a lot different than you think it is. It isn’t the glamourous pictures we see all over Pinterest, Facebook, or even Twitter. But even if it isn’t that “perfect” idea we all have in our heads, I wouldn’t change it for anything.

Confessions of a Perfect Blogger Wannabe

When I started blogging seriously back in January, I thought I could do it all.  I was super woman and a new mom about to embark on an epic journey sharing life while still doing it all! I quickly realized that I was not super woman; I couldn’t do it all.

I was really beginning to doubt myself as a blogger; I had lots of ideas, but wondering how in the world I was going to manage it all. When my husband and I decided that I would become a stay at home mom, we also decided that I would try to find ways to make some money from home. I saw all these amazing women out there, apparently doing it all; blogging, homeschooling, parenting multiple children, speaking, writing books, and seemingly doing it all.

In May when I went to Teach Them Diligently, I sat in on a discussion by Crystal at MoneySavingMom.com. I always wondered how in the world she did and does it all. She homeschooles her children, along with running her huge blog Money Saving Mom and also has speaking engagements all over the country. When she mentioned she has a team that helps to keep her organized, as well as running the blog, a light bulb went off in my head. She really doesn’t do it all, like it may seem she does. There are a lot of people behind the scenes that help her to succeed at what she does.

This is when I realized that I didn’t have to do it all as a blogger. I didn’t have to can, sew my own clothes, have multiple activities and crafts for my daughter to do each day, cook 3 course meals every night, and then blog about it all! I had to come up with my own priorities; what I felt was important and focus on. My priorities may be different than yours. My house may look messier than yours (or cleaner, haha). But each of us has decided what is best for our families.

So what does my house really look like as a blogger? What do my blogging space look like? Here is the rude awakening folks! ;-)

And my super comfy blogging area, where a lot of my ideas are born and carried out?

Yup, the couch, super fancy isn’t it?! ;-)

Because I choose to blog during a lot of my free time, my house unfortunately takes the brunt of things. I am often surrounded by laundry, dirty dishes and a table cluttered and covered. I try to do a good clean out of the house at least once a week, but I will be honest, it doesn’t always happen. But because we have decided as a family that I will take a stab at this blogging thing and trying to make a little extra money on the side, we are okay with that! My husband is so sweet, he tells me time and time again that as long as we have clean clothes (not even folded mind you) and food to eat, he is happy. He doesn’t care that half of the time I don’t get a shower until evening, sometimes even skipping days, because I am blogging during E’s nap time. I truly could not do this without his support 100% of the way!

However, I also realize that I need some help in the area of balancing blogging and home life. So this past week I came up with a new schedule for myself for each day. Like I stated earlier, I blog when E is sleeping, so that gives me nap time and evening after she goes to bed. I will be honest here too, I stay up super late most nights, typically midnight at least working on posts, editing pictures, scheduling social media posts, networking in my blog groups, fixing up old posts, making printables, coming up with future ideas etc. There really is never a moment that there isn’t something to do blogging related. So here is what I am striving for each week in my blogging. Hoping to eventually get earlier bed times in there at some point too! :-)

Saturday Evening - Schedule social media posts for the week (Yes, most of my posts are scheduled ahead of time, however I do go in and check a few times each day to reply to comments and also make sure things posted like they were suppose to).

Sunday Nap time  - Finish Monday/Tuesday Posts

Sunday Evening – Finish scheduling social media posts for the week, work on projects (printables, ebook ideas, fix old posts)

Monday Nap Time – Exercise (this still has yet to happen, mostly because my daughter is teething and so naps have been non-exhistent lately!), pick an area of the house to clean (kitchen, dining room, bathroom, laundry)

Monday Evening – Cook for the week (Make my daughter’s meals up ahead of time that I can, freezer cooking etc) This also has yet to happen, because I have been off schedule due to teething. But I am hoping to get back on tract next week!

Tuesday Nap Time – Write Thursday posts

Tuesday Evening – Work on projects (printables, ebook ideas, fixing old posts etc).

Wednesday Nap Time – Exercise; clean the house (Every other week will also be preparing for Adventurer club group meetings for church)

Wednesday Evening – Write guest posts, work on blog projects

Thursday Nap Time – Work on newsletter & schedule

Thursday Evening – Finish Newsletter, work on blogging projects

Friday Nap Time – Exercise; write Monday & Tuesday posts. (Sometimes E goes to grandma’s house for the day, so if she does I typically have most of the day to do this and then also clean up the house before picking her up in the evenings).

Friday Night – Saturday : REST! I really don’t know what I would do without this time! Friday nights I typically go around and read blogs that I am too busy to read through the week. It is so nice to just sit back and be the one browsing the blogs, instead of pouring into mine all the time!

So there you have it, the schedule I am attempting for myself. And guess what?! I am already behind! haha But that is life… we just take it one day at at time and roll with the punches.

If you are thinking of jumping into the world of blogging, I highly encourage you to! I love what I do. But I also want to let you know that you NEED to sit down and prioritize things in your life and figure out where blogging fits with that. It’s not all glamourous like you think it is from looking around Pinterest and it definitely is not one of those get rich quick schemes, haha! However, the rewards are amazing! I have met so many amazing fellow Christian and homeschool moms who happen to blog. I love making those connections and I love pouring into this blog and seeing all my ideas take shape and come to life!

I want to leave you with a fun little thing that you may not know, which in my mind proves that everything we see online is not what it seems. I’m sure you all have seen my picture on the right sidebar. I use it as my official head shot photo, so it is on all my social media channels, media kit, business cards etc… but what you may not know about that picture….

pregnant

I was 6 months pregnant with my daughter when this picture was taken! I just cropped out the bump and make it my head shot picture because I liked it! :-D

Just goes to show that everything you see on the internet is not what it seems! If you think a blogger or mom has it all together and is “perfect” in everything they do, realize that we are humane too! We all make mistakes, none of us are perfect. The only one who is, is the One who we should all be copying. The One who gives us the strength to do what we do, day in and day out! Look to Him as the one to follow.

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28

Blessings,
